On the back of its most successful contesting year to date, including Second Section National & Yorkshire Champions, Stannington Brass Band was promoted back into the First Section at the beginning of 2017.   With its gifted MD, Derek Renshaw, the band was eager to meet the challenge of a higher contesting arena, and immediately stamped its authority by claiming a hard-fought second place out of a field of 24 bands at the Butlin’s Mineworkers Championships on 14th January. The band has subsequently added 1st Section Whiston Champions to its achievements in 2017.

Proud of its long history, Stannington Brass Band is a village band based on the outskirts of Sheffield. With ambition and a well-established line-up, many players still live locally and some have made the progression from its flourishing Training Band to join the senior ranks.  A sociable and friendly band, it also welcomes students studying at the city’s universities.
